Meetings, sub-groups & activities
Education
At our monthly meetings you will get the chance to hear at least 11 talks per year from guest speakers. The subject matters are varied, from a burlesque dancer to a bee keeper, from an ovarian cancer survivor to a consultant medical physicist. Bursaries are awarded to enable members to attend eligible courses, every year we award a variety of bursaries that members can apply for. Some courses that members have completed are pottery, painting, stone wall building, upholstery, and iPhone photography.
Sub-groups
Some of our sub-groups include; arts & crafts, board games, book club, breakfast club, cake club, coffee & cake meet up, booze & cheese club, curry night, gin club, sale or swap, and yak & yarn.
We have a regular monthly schedule so there is always something to join in with. If there is not a group for you we can support you in creating your own.
Fund raising
Our local charity of the year for 2024/2025 is Beechwood Cancer Care.
We have also helped out with making chicks for Francis House, donating our harvest festival collection to Wellspring, Christmas Tree Festival, Friends of Cale Green Park, collecting clothes and cosmetics for women at Styal Prison, and so much more!
Activities
Some recent activities have included regular visits to our allotment, annual Christmas party, cinema, boozy afternoon tea, tidying up the community bee garden, disco bingo, local gin tour, pottery painting, pride picnic, theatre visits, and quiz nights.
We have ideas to try axe throwing and virtual darts in the future, to name just two.
